Claret aficionados have long regarded this famed Second Growth as possessing one of the greatest terroirs in Bordeaux. Montrose is renowned for producing massively concentrated and powerful wines with profound complexity and richness. Montrose is built for the long haul—just like its vineyards, which have remained largely unchanged since their founding in 1815 by Théodore Dumoulin. The cépage consists of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, with 60% new oak used for their flagship wine. Since 2006, Montrose has been owned by the Bouygues family. Hervé Berland, formerly of Mouton Rothschild, has served as managing director since 2011, succeeding the late Jean-Bernard Delmas, who came from Haut-Brion.
This remarkable vertical tasting, featuring vintages dating back to 1945, promises to be one of the most anticipated highlights of the season—a rare opportunity to experience Montrose’s depth, complexity, and age-worthy brilliance across the decades.
